Whether you’re a vegan or vegetarian or just in search of a delicious new side dish for your alfresco feast, we love grilled vegetables on the BBQ!
BBQs are synonymous with meaty options, but lately, our customers have been keen to add a few more veggies to the menu and have been asking how best to prepare grilled vegetables on the BBQ. We had a word with our chefs to see how you can serve up some plant-based crowd pleasers. Here at Ross and Ross Foods, all of our oils, rubs and seasonings are suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
The best veg for the grill
When choosing vegetables for the barbecue, you’re looking for veg that can hold up to the flames but cook through relatively quickly. Grilling gives vegetables a smokey sweetness that compliments grilled meats beautifully. We’ve put together a few of our favourite recipes, but urge you to try your own.
Once lit, place the grates indirectly away from the charcoal to gently heat
Parboil the potatoes in salted water for 10 minutes
Drain then toss in BBQ Oil
Place the potatoes onto the grates away from the hot coals to gentle roast away for about 45mins. Have them ticking over while you cook the rest of the BBQ
Then toss in butter and place over the hot coals to crisp up and char slightly
Season and serve
Add some finely chopped parsley, basil, mint and chives as an optional garnish. Most fresh garden herbs work well
