This Monday night was no normal, quiet Monday night. Monday night was the night of the Cotswold Life Food and Drink Awards 2014, hosted by BBC Countryfile’s Adam Henson and obviously we were very much there. Since Ross B is on holiday and Ross W has children, I took a friend who’s helped out with events in the past and we had an amazing time.
Despite running out of welcoming champagne, the evening got off to a smooth start as we took our seats on table 48, interestingly named ‘The War of Attrition’, alongside The Vanilla Pod Bakery from Cheltenham, Silver Ball PR, and Gaudio Awards. As to be expected at the food and drink awards, we were served some of the best food I’ve had in a while: a smoked salmon starter was followed by rack of lamb with olive oil mash (which I am definitely attempting at home), then finally a meringue with a chocolate tuile and a cheeseboard. All accompanied by some excellent wines which we helped ourselves to enthusiastically!
We were live-tweeting throughout the event, getting our whole table behind our friends that were nominated. Huge congrats go to our winners: Relish The Taste won ‘Best Local Supplier/Producer’, Severn Cider won ‘Best Farmers Market Stall Holder’, Toast The Cotswolds won ‘Newcomer of The Year’ , Emily Watkins at the Kingham Plough won the big one: ‘Food Hero of the Year’! Massive congrats to all the runners up as well, who did so well to be nominated.
After the awards had all been dished out, the moment we had been waiting all evening for arrived. After circling the room and chatting with everyone, we emptied out our expansive goody bags to inspect our prizes for our hard evening’s work of eating and drinking and socialising. Amongst the offerings inside were a cupcake from Vanilla Pod Bakery, Mr Trotters pork scratching (from the Man Box), Baylis and Harding hand soaps, Artisan Kitchen relish, and shortbread from Whole Foods, and countless other delights that made my friends and family utterly jealous.
If you follow us on twitter you probably saw at least a couple of my many posts, but if not then have a look for some more pictures and updates!
